This past summer, 84 Days had received the Contributor of the Year Award at The Contribute Conference by Oklahoma Christian University. We could not be more thankful for the honor and the recognition given by this University. Several of our high school volunteers attended the conference and received a scholarship to Oklahoma Christian University. The Award was accepted and speech was given by co-founding member, Anna Armstrong.
“…These facts deeply impacted me, and after learning of these statistics I felt compelled to make a difference. In 2016, a friend and I traveled to Kenya and Uganda. We had the opportunity to meet many women and young girls from multiple villages. After learning about the problem first hand and listening to the daily struggles girls face, it made the situation even more surreal. As an academically focused teenager, I was devastated after hearing how the lack of feminine hygiene products negatively impacts education reducing future opportunities for girls my age. I knew that I had to do something to help. I, along with the help of other passionate girls, decided to create 84 Days. 84 Days is a non-profit organization striving to provide education and feminine hygiene products to girls around the world. We travel to countries like Kenya, Uganda, Nicaragua, and Haiti, providing educational workshops about menstruation, supplying them with reusable feminine products, and teaching self-defense techniques. The more time we spend in communities, the more apparent the need. Many girls attending our workshop did not understand what was happening during their menstrual cycle. Many voiced they felt isolated, believing they were the only ones experiencing menstruation. Talking with these girls and learning that they feel all alone in experiencing something so normal, just showed me how serious this issue is.”
A huge THANK YOU to Oklahoma Christian University for giving us this honor.
